Breaking Cycles
An EP born in isolation and reflection
A peaceful, snow-covered cabin near Mount Adams served as the backdrop for an unplanned musical journey. During a time of solitude and contemplation, I set out to reconnect with myself and find creative inspiration. Equipped with a few cherished instruments, including my new Teenage Engineering KO-2, OP-Z, 0-Coast, Gradient Synth, and my trusty Kaoss Pad, I sought comfort and clarity in the stillness of the mountains.
A Solitary Expedition:
The cabin, courtesy of Getaway, offered an escape from the everyday hustle. As snow began to fall, I found myself in a unique environment—disconnected from the outside world and surrounded by nature's beauty. With time on my hands and creativity bubbling up, I began crafting music that reflected my inner journey.
Creating Amidst the Storm:
As the snowstorm intensified, trees fell, and I remained cut off from civilization. During this time, I immersed myself in music, creating a series of tracks that became the foundation for an EP. Upon returning home and listening back to the recordings, I felt a strong desire to share them.

Analyzing the EP with Sonoteller:
With the EP completed, I turned to Sonoteller, an AI music analysis tool, to gain insights into my work. The tool, built by my friend Edu Duque, offered a detailed breakdown of each track, highlighting aspects such as language, genre, instrumentation, and mood. The analysis was enlightening, revealing the complexity and diversity of the music I had created.
Sonoteller's insights into the moods and styles of my tracks were particularly fascinating. The tool identified varying emotional undertones, from introspective and somber to energetic and uplifting, mirroring the multifaceted nature of the EP. The genres and subgenres highlighted by Sonoteller showcased the diversity of influences that shaped the music, ranging from ambient and experimental to electronic and indie.
Sonoteller’s ability to automatically tag and categorize music was particularly useful. The AI provided summaries and insights that aligned with my creative intentions, enriching my understanding of the EP and helping me appreciate the subtle nuances of each track. This technology allowed me to see my work from a new perspective, deepening my connection to the music.

It explores the idea of returning to familiar places while also acknowledging the potential for breaking free from cycles. The tracks, like “Why Don’t I Get You (It?) This Time (Around)” and “Nexus,” reflect on these themes, inviting listeners to contemplate their own cycles and patterns.
